An Evening with The Football Characters

Gala Events were delighted to host a fabulous ‘Dinner with the Football Characters’ at Edgbaston cricket ground in November at which we had no fewer than three Premier League managers on our panel of speakers. Our fantastic line-up included Manchester United legend and current Hull City manager Steve Bruce, current Hammers boss ‘Big Sam’ Allardyce, and former QPR manager and renowned firebrand Neil Warnock. This proved to be one of our most popular events ever, with nearly 450 guests in attendance to hear the musings of three of English football’s finest managers on the game to which they have devoted their lives.

After a superb three course dinner, our compere Tom Ross from BRMB had the daunting task of interviewing our panel, a case of ‘managing the managers’ which he handled with aplomb. Guests were treated to some fascinating insights and anecdotes from Steve, Sam and Neil, and were not left disappointed as they delved into their extensive careers to entertain the audience with style, humour and panache. Highlights included  tales of training ground bust-ups, managing ‘maverick’ geniuses such as Paolo Di Canio, and some particularly memorable anecdotes from Steve regarding playing under Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United. The audience were left thrilled, and the interplay between these three big characters was in itself a joy to behold.

Despite having the unenviable task of following our managerial stars onto the stage, proceedings were brought to a close in fine style as top comedian Tank Sherman had our guests in stitches, proving once again why he is one of the most in-demand comedians on the after dinner comedy circuit. Feedback from our guests was uniformly excellent, and everyone left in high spirits having enjoyed a superb evening. Our thanks go to the staff at Edgbaston for a fabulous meal and cracking venue, to host Tom Ross and comedian Tank Sherman, and most importantly to our three Premier League managers: Steve Bruce, Sam Allardyce and Neil Warnock.
