The Inaugural 2026 Nations Championship:

The Nations Championship replaces traditional end-of-year friendlies with a meaningful, competitive tournament that pits the world’s best teams against one another in a clearly defined league format.

Twelve nations will compete across two conferences:

• The North Conference – featuring the six teams from the Guinness Men’s Six Nations
• The Rest of the World Conference – made up of Rugby Championship teams plus two invited nations

Rather than isolated Tests, results from each fixture will contribute to an overall league table, with the top teams progressing to a Finals Weekend, culminating in the first-ever Nations Championship Grand Final.

This is international rugby reimagined – where every try, every point, and every victory shapes the journey to the trophy.

Each nation will play six cross-conference matches:

• Three fixtures in July
• Three fixtures in November

At the end of the league phase, the highest-ranked teams will advance to the Finals Weekend, hosted at London’s Allianz Stadium. From there, it’s knockout rugby at its finest, with one side crowned the inaugural Nations Championship winner.

The format ensures competitive balance, long-term storylines, and high-stakes encounters throughout the international calendar – something players, fans, and broadcasters have long called for.

England’s pool campaign promises blockbuster encounters against some of world rugby’s most exciting teams.

They will begin by facing Australia, before welcoming Japan, and then conclude their pool fixtures with a mouth-watering clash against New Zealand. With qualification on the line, each match will be played at full intensity – no warm-ups, no dead rubbers, just elite Test rugby with everything at stake.

Several of these fixtures will take place at Twickenham, the spiritual home of English rugby, underscoring the prestige and scale of the competition and ensuring a powerful atmosphere for this historic new tournament.
