Early bouts & Olympic Medal

Anthony Joshua rose to prominence after capturing Olympic gold at the London 2012 Games, launching a meteoric rise through the professional ranks to become one of the sport’s premier heavyweight attractions.

In April 2016, Joshua claimed his first world title by stopping IBF champion Charles Martin, and quickly followed that with dominant defences against Dominic Breazeale and Eric Molina.

His breakout moment came in April 2017 when he defeated Wladimir Klitschko in front of a record 90,000 fans at Wembley Stadium, a fight widely regarded as one of the greatest heavyweight contests of the modern era. Joshua went on to unify the division by defeating Joseph Parker for the WBO title in 2018, having already beaten Carlos Takam and later defending against Alexander Povetkin.

Unbeaten run ends...

Joshua’s unbeaten record ended in dramatic fashion when he was stopped by Andy Ruiz Jr. in June 2019 during his U.S. debut at Madison Square Garden. However, he reclaimed his titles six months later in Saudi Arabia with a disciplined points victory.

In December 2020, Joshua returned with a brutal KO win over Kubrat Pulev before stepping up to face pound-for-pound star Oleksandr Usyk. Despite determined performances, Joshua was outpointed in back-to-back fights in 2021 and 2022, losing his unified heavyweight titles.

The ‘Day of Reckoning’: Anthony Joshua Comeback

Following those setbacks, Joshua overhauled his training setup and teamed up with renowned trainer Derrick James in Texas. He returned to action in April 2023 with a comfortable decision victory over Jermaine Franklin at The O2 Arena in London. A planned August showdown with Dillian Whyte was cancelled after Whyte failed a drug test, leading to a late replacement opponent.

Joshua stepped in against Robert Helenius and delivered a spectacular seventh-round knockout. Later in 2023, Joshua fought on the blockbuster “Day of Reckoning” card in Saudi Arabia, dominating Otto Wallin, whose corner stopped the fight after five rounds.

Joshua carried that momentum into March 2024, when he faced former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou in Saudi Arabia. Many expected Ngannou to be a dangerous challenge after his close fight with Tyson Fury. Instead, Joshua delivered one of the most devastating performances of his career, scoring multiple knockdowns before finishing Ngannou in the second round with a spectacular knockout.

Wembley Shock – Dubois Upsets Joshua

In September 2024, Joshua returned to Wembley Stadium in front of a massive 96,000 fans to challenge IBF champion Daniel Dubois in an all-British world title clash. Despite entering the fight as the favourite, Joshua was stopped in the fifth round after a dramatic contest in which Dubois’ power proved decisive. The defeat marked Joshua’s fifth professional loss and temporarily halted his quest to become a three-time heavyweight world champion.

Anthony Joshua vs Jake Paul

In one of the most talked-about crossover fights in recent boxing history, Joshua faced YouTube-turned-boxer Jake Paul. While the bout attracted global attention due to Paul’s massive social media following, Joshua demonstrated the gulf between elite heavyweight champions and crossover fighters. The British star dominated the contest from the opening bell, controlling the distance with his jab before ending the fight with a powerful knockout in the early rounds.

The victory reminded fans why Joshua remains one of the most dangerous heavyweights in the sport and reinforced his status as one of boxing’s biggest global attractions.

The Current Chapter

Since the Dubois defeat, speculation has surrounded Joshua’s next move. Possible future fights against major names such as Deontay Wilder, Joseph Parker, and other leading contenders have continued to generate huge interest among boxing fans.

Even with setbacks, Joshua remains one of the sport’s biggest attractions. His fights consistently sell out stadiums, draw global audiences and shape the direction of the heavyweight division.

Now firmly established as one of the defining heavyweights of the modern era, Anthony Joshua’s journey has been anything but ordinary. From Olympic glory and championship dominance to setbacks that demanded reinvention, AJ continues to captivate fans with every chapter.

Still hungry, still dangerous and always a major draw, Anthony Joshua remains a key figure in the heavyweight landscape, and a fighter determined to reclaim world title glory.
