St Columb Major AFC is a proud grassroots football club at the heart of the local community in mid-Cornwall. With a rich history built over many decades, the club has long provided opportunities for players of all ages to enjoy and develop their game in a supportive and passionate environment. Now they’re entering an exciting new chapter, both on and off the pitch, with a commitment to developing and improving the facilities available to the adult team, their fantastic youth teams, and the wider community who support them. Longer term, their vision is to transform the club’s pavilion into a vibrant Community Hub — a space that benefits everyone in the area. Kevin Keegan
During his playing career, Kevin Keegan was one of the world’s best attacking midfielders, playing for the likes of Newcastle, Hamburg and the great Liverpool side of the Seventies. A prolific goal-scorer, Kevin terrorised defences with his extravagant skills and box-to-box engine and is the only English footballer to be crowned European Footballer of the Year twice, winning the Ballon d’Or in 1978 and 1979. In a glittering professional career Kevin scored an incredible 296 goals in 832 games in all, including 21 goals for England in 63 appearances. He made his name as a manager at Newcastle United, taking the club out of the doldrums to the Premier League, where he established the team at the top, bringing European football back to St James’ Park for the first time since the 70s. Briefly boss at Fulham before becoming boss of the England football team, he successfully led the national side to the Euro 2000 Finals, following a poor start to the qualification campaign under Glenn Hoddle. A superb and hilarious speaker, Kevin’s limitless supply of anecdotes always has guests in stitches, and he remains one of the game’s most colourful and entertaining characters.

Dave enjoyed a 15-year professional cricket career with Kent, playing in 200 First Class matches with an average in the high 30s, and over 100 one day games. His best season came in 2001, when he scored an incredible 1892 First Class runs at an average of just under 76, being crowned PCA Player of the Year. Since retiring from the game in 2006, Dave has forged a career as a sports journalist and event host, appearing regularly on Sky Sports’ cricket coverage and as a presenter on Sky Sports News. A huge sports fan, Dave has previously hosted our Long Room Lunch at Lord’s, Gold Cup Lunches, Football World Cup big screen events and boxing hospitality, and brings a high level of knowledge and professionalism to our events.
