Don’t forget to check out our upcoming Sporting Dinners!
In what looked like one of the closest match-ups in recent years, two Britons collided as George Groves and Chris Eubank Jr put their titles and legacies on the line in what was a huge clash for both boxers. We were thrilled to be an official hospitality provider for this huge clash at Manchester Arena. Guests enjoyed fantastic pre-fight hospitality at the nearby Renaissance Hotel, with a three-course dinner hosted by Sky Sports presenter Pete Graves, complimentary bar, boxing memorabilia auction and analysis from former world IBF middleweight champion and Sky Sports analyst, Darren Barker.
In the event it was “Saint” George who emerged victorious, dominating an unusually sluggish Eubank for most of the fight. Groves’ jab kept Eubank at a safe distance, and an accidental clash of heads in the 3rd Round left “Next Gen” with an extra unwanted problem, as the blood no doubt affected his vision during the bout. A late flurry from Eubank didn’t prove enough to sway the judges who scored the bout 117-112, 116-112 and 115-113 for Groves. There was little surprise at the outcome in the Arena, and Groves was a deserved winner.
Guests then returned to the Manchester Renaissance for a buffet, with the cash bar doing a good trade as people celebrated a great night of boxing. We were delighted to welcome 2012 Olympic Middleweight bronze medallist Anthony Ogogo to the stage, who is rebuilding a very promising career in the professional ranks following a long-term injury. We very much look forward to working with George’s team again in the future, on what was a memorable evening!
