Sold out weeks in advance, 370 guests joined us in the Ball Room at the Park Plaza Riverbank in London for our Rugby World Cup big screen event featuring the group match between England and the USA beamed live from Japan. We were joined for the day by three big names: World cup winner and England’s most-capped centre Mike Tindall was joined by all-time great Aussie winger David Campese and the shy and retiring former England utility back Austin Healey. With these three great characters as guests there was a real buzz in the air as the guys made there way to the stage for pre-match analysis.
The room at the Park Plaza is perfect for these rugby World Cup event screenings and everyone had an amazing view of our top-of-the-range giant screens. Following the match, and with the comp bar taking quite a battering, a three course lunch was served followed by a lengthy on stage interview with our three stars about their careers and the prospects of their respective nations in the Rugby World Cup.
As expected, England ran out comfortable winners running in seven tries to defeat a brave but limited USA team 45-7. A shut-out was prevented right at the end as England’s defence succumbed to a very late try from Bryce Campbell. Try-scorers for England were Ford, Billy Vunipola, Cowan-Dickie, Cokanasiga (2), McConnochie and Ludlam. It was a good work-out for the England team as they build momentum towards the latter stages of the competition.
