Join us in the Ashes Suite at the iconic Kia Oval cricket ground as England take on Belgium in what we hope will be the showdown to decide the group winner! When the draw was made in early December, many England fans breathed a sigh of relief when the Three Lions were drawn alongside Panama, Tunisia and Belgium, avoiding the biggest guns in each pot. Your clients and colleagues will enjoy a three-course dinner, 5 ½ hour complimentary bar, and the match shown live on our giant screens.
We are thrilled to welcome Premier League legends and former England stars Jamie Carragher and Les Ferdinand as our very special guests, who will join Sky Sports host Pete Graves for what promises to be an epic day!
England v Belgium: If things go to plan for the two European sides against Tunisia and Panama, then the match between England and Belgium should be the decider for who wins the group, and the distinct possibility of avoiding one of the top seeds in the Second Round! The Belgians are replete with world class players, many of whom are based in the Premier League, with the likes of Kevin De Bruyne, Romelu Lukaku, Eden Hazard, Thibaut Courtois, Vincent Kompany, Jan Vertonghen and Marouane Fellaini all playing for the big guns. Historically the Belgians, like England, have often underperformed on the biggest stage, and it will be fascinating to see who comes out on top! Can the likes of Harry Kane, Dele Alli, Gary Cahill, Jordan Henderson and the squad overcome the challenge and lead England safely into the knockout stages?
Jamie Carragher: A one club man and undisputed Kop legend, Jamie made an astonishing 737 appearances in all competitions during his 17 year playing career at Anfield. His 150 European appearances is the most made by any player in Liverpool’s history; who will ever forget Liverpool’s incredible triumph in the 2005 Champions’ League final when they came back from 3-0 down at half-time to stun AC Milan, winning on penalties after the match finished 3-3! In a glittering career Jamie also picked up two FA Cups, three League Cups, two Community Shields, one UEFA Cup, and two Super Cups. His international career included 38 caps, with many shrewd judges believing it a travesty that he didn’t win at least double that number. Jamie featured at both the 2006 and 2010 World Cup Finals tournaments, playing in a total of 6 matches, including the heart-breaking quarter-final defeat to Portugal on penalties in Germany. Jamie is now one of SKY Sports’ senior pundits, and a voice of authority on the game.
Les Ferdinand: One of the Premier League’s most prolific strikers, Les currently lies 9th in the all-time list of goal-scorers, with 149 goals to his name, one behind Michael Owen. In all competitions he netted over 200 times at senior level, with an average just under a goal every two games. Les played for a total of 6 different Premier League clubs, but his most prolific years were spent at his beloved QPR, Newcastle Utd and Spurs. Loved wherever he played, he is particularly fondly remembered by the Toon Army, where his two season spell was filled with goals. He played on 17 occasions for England, scoring 5 times, and was part of both the Euro ’96 and World Cup ’98 squads – he would surely have won many more in other eras but was battling against Alan Shearer as a classic no.9. Since early 2015, Les has been Director of Football at QPR, where he continues to serve his first senior club with distinction.
Pete Graves: A passionate Newcastle United fan, Pete has enjoyed a swift rise through the broadcasting ranks to become one of the most recognisable faces on Sky Sports. After leaving university, Pete started his broadcasting career with the hospital radio show Radio Tyneside, before working in the local Metro Radio, and then ITV Tyneside as a sports reporter. Since 2009 he has worked at Sky Sports, mainly as a presenter, where his passion for football and knowledge of the game are amongst his greatest assets.
