Teddy Sheringham
Teddy enjoyed an astonishing professional career spanning 25 years, with almost 1000 appearances in club and international matches. A prolific striker, he scored over 350 goals, including 22 in the second over Premier League season of 1992-93, landing him the Golden Boot. His most successful spell came at Manchester Utd, where he won 3 consecutive Premier League titles between 1998-2001, and an FA Cup in 1999. Four days after the FA Cup triumph Teddy scored a dramatic stoppage-time equaliser against Bayern Munich in the Champions League final, then with seconds remaining, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer scored from the famous treble-clinching winner from Sheringham’s flick on. Amidst his time at the Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League, regarded as a legend at White Hart Lane, his two spells at Spurs saw very prolific, with 125 goals in 277 appearances. Despite not winning his first cap until 27, Teddy had an excellent England career with 11 goals in 51 matches, the highlight being the SAS partnership with Alan Shearer in 1996, when England made the semi-finals, including a 4-1 destruction of Holland, which we are sure to hear more about from our two legends on the day!
Emile Heskey
After bursting onto the scene at 17 at Leicester City, Emile enjoyed a fruitful spell, scoring 46 goals in 197 appearances, winning two League Cups, and breaking into the England squad. Liverpool paid a club record £11 million in March 2000 and he enjoyed immediate success, as the Reds won an unprecedented FA Cup, League Cup & UEFA Cup treble in 2000/01. The most prolific season of Emile’s career, he bagged 22 goals in 56 games, forming a lethal partnership with Michael Owen, who he partnered to famously destroy Germany 1-5 away in Munich in September 2001. He played 223 matches at Anfield, scoring 60 goals, adding a second League cup in 2003. His England career flourished as although not prolific his all-round play and work ethic were crucial to the team. He played in two World Cups in 2002 and 2010 and Euro 2004, winning an impressive 62 caps with 7 goals. Later club spells with Birmingham City, Wigan Athletic, Aston Villa, Newcastle Jets and Bolton Wanderers saw him extend his career to 22 seasons, with 164 career goals in 786 appearances.
David James
David enjoyed a remarkable 26-year career, earning 53 caps for England and establishing himself as one of the country’s most consistent goalkeepers. He made 958 club appearances, including 572 in the Premier League — the highest total for a goalkeeper — representing Watford, Liverpool, Aston Villa, West Ham, Manchester City, and Portsmouth. David won the League Cup with Liverpool in 1994/95 and famously lifted the FA Cup with Portsmouth in 2007/08. As England’s first-choice goalkeeper during Euro 2004 and the 2010 World Cup, he was a commanding presence on the international stage. Appointed MBE in 2012, David continues to support young people through his foundation and remains a popular speaker.
Neil Ruddock
A fearsome competitor on the pitch who pushed the boundaries of physical intimidation, ‘Razor’ Ruddock was a striker’s nightmare, as a tough-tackling centre back with confidence on the ball, and an eye for a goal. In a 17-year career played almost entirely in the top flight, Neil starred for Millwall, Spurs, Southampton, Liverpool and West Ham, winning the League Cup whilst at Anfield in 1995. His colourful career was littered with on-field altercations with other hardmen of the day including the likes of Eric Cantona, and perhaps most famously, with Arsenal’s Patrick Vieira in 1999. With 466 appearances in all competitions and almost 50 goals, Neil was a free-scoring centre back, gaining his England cap under Terry Venables, against Nigeria in 1994. Since retiring in 2003 he has featured many times on TV including in I’m A Celebrity, Celebrity Big Brother and Celebrity Masterchef, and most recently some hilarious antics on ITV’s ‘Harry’s Heroes’ with Harry Redknapp!
Pete Graves
