World Cup Big Screen Event: London

England v USA

We are delighted to be holding a major football dinner and World Cup screening at the 5* Hilton Park Lane on Friday 25th November featuring England’s crucial second group game against the USA.

We are thrilled to have confirmed former England, Lazio and Man City manager Sven-Goran Eriksson and Premier League legend Harry Redknapp, with Arsenal icon Paul Merson completing the line-up. Our star guests will be previewing the match and England’s prospects in the tournament, as well as discussing their own stellar careers along with our Sky Sports host for the day, Pete Graves.

The event will be held in the magnificent Grand Ballroom at the iconic Hilton Park Lane and will include a delicious three course dinner, complimentary bar of beers/wines/soft drinks, giant screen coverage and analysis from our VIP guests all in the safe hands of our Sky Sport host, Pete Graves.

England vs USA: England will face the USA in their crucial second World Cup group game at the Al Bayt Stadium. This will be the third time in World Cup history that England and the USA have met, the first coming in 1950 when the US famously beat England 1-0. More recently, the two sides faced off in the 2010 World Cup in the group stage, with the match ending in a 1-1 draw, the Three Lions will be desperate to register a first World Cup victory against their opponents. Led by Harry Kane, England will start strong favourites replete with world class players but the States have a few class acts of their own including the likes of Chelsea star Christian Pulisic, Dortmund starlet Giovanni Reyna and Barcelona full back Sergino Dest. It should be a cracking match!

Sven-Goran Eriksson: Following a playing career in the Swedish lower divisions, it was as a manager that Sven was to make his true mark on the game. He began as Tord Grip’s assistant at Degerfors. A year later, Grip left the club and Eriksson became manager. After initial success he was approached by IFK Gothenberg and from there his rise to the top was swift. He led IFK to the UEFA Cup in 1982, the first ever European triumph by a Swedish side, before moving to Benfica where he won 2 league titles and made another UEFA Cup Final. He then joined Roma, winning the Coppa Italia in 1994 before joining Lazio, achieving a famous Serie A title in 2000, as well as the Coppa Italia in 1998 and UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup in 1999. England came calling and Sven took over in January 2001, he went on to become England’s longest-serving manager since Sir Bobby Robson. In all he managed England in 67 matches, losing just 10, and saw the country to 3 consecutive major championship finals, the 2002 and 2006 World Cups, and Euro 2004, reaching the quarter-finals in each. We are delighted to welcome Sven to the Hilton Park Lane.

Harry Redknapp: Since making his name with Bournemouth, Harry has taken charge of some of England’s top sides, including West Ham, Portsmouth, Southampton and Tottenham Hotspur. During his career, Harry won the 2008 FA Cup with Portsmouth and then guided Tottenham to their most successful Premier League position, finishing fourth and securing Champions’ League Football. Harry won the Premier League ‘Manager of the Year’ Award that season, becoming only the second manager to do so in a season where his side did not win the title. He went on to manage QPR and most recently, Birmingham City. A much-loved pundit and personality, Harry famously won the 2018 series of ‘I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here’ making him a star to non-football fans. After being crowned ‘King of the Jungle’, Harry hosted ‘Harry’s Heroes’, giving former England footballers a final chance to beat rivals Germany. Nicknamed ‘Houdini’ for conjuring up so many relegation escapes, we are delighted to welcome Harry to our event.

Paul Merson: After making his debut in 1986, Paul was a regular on the right wing in the unforgettable 1988-89 season, when Michael Thomas scored with almost the last kick of the season at Anfield to bring the title back to Highbury. During that legendary season, Paul scored 10 goals from the wing, broke into the England U21 side, and was named the PFA Young Player of the Season. He went on to have a long and glorious career with The Gunners, making 423 appearances and scoring 99 goals in all competitions; he won another League title in 1991, as well as the FA and League Cups in 1993, and the Cup Winners’ Cup in 1994. His first senior England cap came in 1991, and although he wasn’t always a regular, he went on to win 21 caps for his country, scoring 3 goals. On leaving Arsenal, he enjoyed spells with Middlesbrough, Aston Villa and Portsmouth. One of the game’s most colourful characters, Paul is now one of the most highly-rated speakers on the circuit.

Pete Graves: A passionate Newcastle Utd fan, Pete has enjoyed a swift rise through the broadcasting ranks to become one of the most recognisable faces on Sky Sports. After leaving university, Pete started his broadcasting career with the hospital radio show Radio Tyneside, before working in the local Metro Radio, and then ITV Tyneside as a sports reporter. Since 2009 he has worked at Sky Sports, mainly as a presenter, where his passion for sport and all-round knowledge are amongst his greatest assets. Over the past few years Pete has become a great asset as a regular host of our events, and we are delighted to have him as always!

Emily Haig: We are delighted to welcome one of the UK’s best vocalists to sing the pre-match National Anthem! Emily’s powerhouse soprano vocals, spellbinding and dramatic performance and stunning looks ensure that she immediately commands the stage and engages with her audience. Emily has been honoured to perform the National Anthem 27 times at Wembley Stadium, 5 times at Silverstone Circuit and Twickenham Stadium, plus amongst others, the Olympic Park, Motorpoint Arena, Copper Box and Ricoh Stadium, all of which were internationally live broadcast to millions worldwide.

The 5* Hilton Park Lane: An icon of British hospitality since 1963, London Hilton on Park Lane was the first Hilton hotel to open in the UK — the hotel have been purveyors of excellence ever since. Overlooking Hyde Park, the location is close to West End theatres, historic landmarks and famous shopping districts. Step inside the hotel and find elegant rooms with magnificent views, world-class dining and the glorious Grand Ballroom which we are thrilled to have secured and will play host to our event. The Hilton Park Lane has most recently been awarded the Best Luxury Banquet Event Hotel within the United Kingdom from the World Luxury Hotel Awards, a fitting tribute to this iconic venue.
