England v Slovenia
If all goes to plan England’s final group game against Slovenia could give the Three Lions the opportunity to top the group should they be victorious. The last couple of matches against Slovenia, during the 2018 World Cup qualifying campaign, were very tight games indeed, a 0-0 draw in the first leg followed by a very tight 1-0 victory at Wembley courtesy of an injury time winner from Harry Kane. Although only ranked 55 in the world, the Slovenians are captained by Atletico Madrid’s world class goalkeeper, Jan Oblak, with RB Leipzig starlet Benjamin Šeško providing a genuine goal threat up top. Harry Kane and his men will need to be at their best as any complacency will be capitalised upon. With the likes of Jude Bellingham, Phil Foden, Declan Rice and Trent Alexander-Arnold in their ranks, England will start as hot favourites!
Kevin Keegan
A footballing legend, who dominated the pitch as a midfielder for clubs like Liverpool and Newcastle. He terrorised defences with his skill and relentless energy, becoming the only Englishman to win the Ballon d’Or twice (1978, 1979). His 296 goals in 832 games speak for themselves. As a manager, Keegan revived Newcastle United, leading them to the Premier League and European football. He even guided England to the Euro 2000 Finals. A captivating speaker, Keegan remains a colourful and entertaining icon in the beautiful game.
Les Ferdinand
A Premier League legend, sits 11th on the all-time scoring list with 149 goals. He’s beloved by fans, especially at Newcastle where he netted 50 goals in just 84 games. Capped 17 times for England, he played alongside Alan Shearer and remains a respected figure in football, currently serving as Director of Football at his first club, QPR.
Keith Downie
Sky Sports reporter and a Geordie at heart despite his Scottish roots, has covered Newcastle United for a decade. Famous for announcing their long-awaited takeover in 2021, he’s become a go-to source for transfer news and chronicles the club’s European adventures. When not analysing Newcastle, Keith brings his expertise to Gillette Soccer Saturday, covering Sunderland and Middlesbrough. Previously, he witnessed Rangers’ historic run to the 2008 UEFA Cup Final and broke the news of their liquidation in 2012. Off the pitch, you might find him teeing off on Northumberland’s coastlines
