Don’t forget to check out our upcoming Sporting Dinners!
Our Birmingham Gold Cup Lunch goes from strength to strength, and this year we were joined by well over 300 guests for another day of world class racing on our giant screen, dining and drinking, and speeches from our two footballing guests, former Wales international Dean Saunders, and ex-England right back Danny Mills, both of whom enjoyed long careers in the top flight of English football.
With our live Irish band getting everyone in the mood, guests settled down for a delicious three course lunch, with the bar doing a roaring trade and plenty of the black stuff flowing. With a full card from Gold Cup day culminating in the famous race itself, and live bookies in the room, this was an action-packed day to remember. We were also delighted to welcome Sky Sports tipster Kevin Minter as our tipster for the day, and he gave his advice on the afternoon’s racing to the punters in the room.
In between racing our guests enjoyed hearing from our speakers, Dean and Danny, both of whom delivered a speech which included tales from their respective careers, and anecdotes about some of the top players they played alongside. As always at our events, there were a few eyebrow-raising tales which you’d only hear from the horse’s mouth!
In the event, it was a brilliant afternoon’s racing, as to be expected from the most prestigious day in the National Hunt calendar. The feature race, the Cheltenham Gold Cup, was won by the 5-1 third favourite Native River, which was a popular pick with punters in the room. An epic duel with 4-1 favourite Might Bite was one for the ages, with the gallant Native River outstaying his brave rival up the hill to the finish.
Our thanks got to Dean and Danny, to the staff at Edgbaston, and to our many clients for continuing to make this event one of the best attended in our calendar!
