England took on New Zealand in the third of four International T20 cricket matches at Edgbaston on the 3rd of September 2023.  We were joined in the Waytt Suite by the former England fast bowler Steve Harmison, a man rated by Shane Warne as one of the 50 greatest ever cricketers. We were also delighted to welcome the brilliantly entertaining New Zealand legend Stephen Fleming, their most successful ever captain and a man who achieved 111 caps and 7117 runs at an average over 40.

The day began with some terrific pre-match food, before our Special Guests took the stage to talk about their careers, rivalries, favourite matches and predictions for not only day’s game but also looking ahead to the Cricket World Cup. Both respective nations would think they have a big chance at the upcoming tournament and that was reflected in the opinions of our guests.

Play began and the match was a thriller but England, already 2-0 up coming into the fixture, ultimately couldn’t get the victory and secure a series win. New Zealand batted first and superbly too as they secured a total of 202-5 in their 20 overs, with Finn Allen and Glenn Phillips top scoring with 83 and 69 respectively. England I reply started poorly and despite a minor middle order rally (Jos Buttler scoring 40 and Moeen Ali hitting 26) any hope was short lived as they were bowled out for 128 in 18.3 overs.

Atkinson with 2-21 was the pick of England’s bowlers, while Ish Sodhi (3-33) and in particular Kyle Jamieson (3-23) were just too good for England to manage on the day.

A great time was had by all in the lounge, with more amazing food served during the match and the drinks flowed throughout the day. We can’t wait to get back to Edgbaston for another incredible corporate sporting lunch and more thrilling cricket hospitality!
