Teddy Sheringham & Darren Gough

Don’t forget to check out our upcoming Sporting Dinners!

Our Gold Cup Lunch at The Oval was attended by over 150 guests who enjoyed an afternoon of football and cricket chat, delicious dining and all the world class action from Cheltenham Gold Cup Day. With a 6 hour complimentary bar and our tipster giving his thoughts on the day, there was a cracking atmosphere with many clients cheering home a few winners into the bargain!

Our VIP guests for the day were two huge characters from the worlds of football and cricket. England forward Teddy Sheringham was joined by the force of nature known as Darren Gough and neither of our guests let the fans in the room down with some top banter and great stories from their careers. We were also delighted to once again welcome Grand National-winning jockey and current trainer Brendan Powell as our tipster for the day, who managed to tip a couple of winners including a 12-1 shot!

Our live Irish band ‘Pastiche’ were absolutely brilliant, getting everyone in the mood with an enthusiastic and lively performance of some classics and a few of their own numbers. We’ll definitely be booking them again as we had such great feedback about these guys!

After enjoying a three course lunch our speakers came on in between the racing action, with the bookies doing a great trade with all the horse-racing fans in the room. Goughie was in particularly ebullient form with tales of his time playing with the likes of Andrew Flintoff and Kevin Pietersen, the latter who he rated as the greatest player he had played with. As usual, he had the room in stitiches with his animated delivery on the mike!

Teddy gave his thoughts on the current England team which everyone is so excited about, his experiences of Euro ’96 and a cracking story about Paul Gascoigne. Gazza picked the ball up in training and beat 5 England defenders before scoring – it was the only time in his career he witnessed the entire squad stop in training to applaud! Sheringham rates Gazza as easily the best he played alongside.

By the time the big race came on most people in the room were in “high spirits” with everyone in the room cheering on their fancy for the Cheltenham Gold Cup. In the event the result was something of a surprise as 12-1 shot Al Boum Photo powered up the hill to take victory against the hotly fancied big three of Native River, Clan Des Obeaux and Presenting Percy. That didn’t stop a few wily punters in the room from backing the winner, with a fair few each way backers coming up trumps!

Host Pete Graves made sure everything went with a swing as guests continued on into the late afternoon with a few more beers and the final races from the meeting. Thanks to everyone who attended and to Teddy and Darren, we hope to see you again in 2020!
